Hey there, welcome back!

This week has been crazy exciting. I have gotten a second mentorship through a friend of mine and have continued learning about the different positions within Ologie. This week was my first week at the Columbus Radio Group with my mentor. At Ologie I talked with their Research and Strategy team.

The Columbus Radio Group owns several radio stations in central Ohio. The radio station includes Sunny 95, Qfm96, Mix107.9, and Rewind 103.5/104.3 click to listen in. They refer to themselves as The Solution Store because they provide customized marketing solutions for each client's needs. They have a loyal fan base of around 100,000 Ohioans and host more than 50 events. My mentor is a friend of mine’s mom and she is the Director of Marketing and Sales. . My first day we stayed in her office and joined a Zoom with all of the other marketing directors in the company. They were discussing what was working in their strategies and giving tips. Following the meeting, my mentor and I discussed the importance of radio. It was honestly shocking how many people listen to the radio. I only listened to the radio because my car is too old and none of my friends do. With this mentorship, I hope to learn more about advertising and marketing along with getting an in-person view of the job.

This week at Ologie I met with their Research and Strategy studios. To be honest this has been my most favorite so far. I was supposed to meet with one strategist and one researcher but unfortunately, the strategist was unable to make it their jobs are similar so the researcher was able to fill in most of the blanks. In simple terms, researchers are quantitative (work with numbers). Ologie is different from most agencies because a lot of other agencies do not use quantitative data and they do. It helps them decide what people are interested in and why. Strategists are qualitative (everything else) they are really looking for the “who, what, why, and how” Once their discovery (question asking process) is completed the strategist moves on to creating a messaging map. A map is like the bones of the brand. They use simple words and big Ideas that the creative studios will then transform into the final product. I really like strategy and I honestly believe that I could see myself in this position. I have a creative mind but I have problems turning it into a tangible product.

With both of my mentorship, I have had to create goals in order to ensure I am learning what I want to. Most of the time I create small goals because too big of goals can be overwhelming for me to start. I make most of my goals in the form of a checklist or to-do list. They are very helpful for me to see everything I have to do and to be able to check them off as I go. These have proven very helpful when I have a lot to do and to ensure I get it all done. I have set several goals for my mentorship that I have mentioned in this blog and previous ones. As for other goals I would like to attend a four-year university, get married, and have a happy, successful life. Thank you for tuning in this week. I cannot wait to tell you all about next week!
