The Clock Is Ticking

Welcome Back! This week I met with a woman who is in charge of Marketing at Ologie. I thought it was kind of funny that a marketing company has a marketing department. The other three departments I have met with over Zoom at Ologie have been very thorough with a set of things they do and how they get them done. In her position, her day-to-day is always different with new tasks each day. Honestly, I think this is my favorite one I have talked to so far. Her job is very project-oriented, collaborative, and different daily.
Ologie's Chief Marketing and Communication Officer talked to me about the difference between working for one company and an agency. Ologie is an agency because it works for several different clients. Agencies also have multiple team members who work in different departments such as there being several people in design, writing, strategy, etc. Most companies that have in-house marketing teams only have one or two individuals who work in those departments. When looking towards my future this information is very helpful in deciding what kind of atmosphere I would like to work in. After our Zoom meeting, I believe that an Agency is the way I want to go. Working for an agency will give me the freedom to work on multiple projects that are different in nature to keep me interested.

Two weeks ago I learned that Ologie is a very scheduled company. The Project Managers (PMs) are in charge of scheduling everyone. They schedule what project the team works on, how long they work on it, and assign deadlines. They are able to be flexible with how much time the team gets on a project depending on how hard the deadlines are. The deadline for a project differs depending on the client. The PMs are able to shift things when they need more time because Ologie is set on producing quality work. If they cannot meet the deadline the Account Manager (AM) ( Person who talks with the client) talks with the client to decide how to move forward.
These past couple of weeks time management has been a real struggle. This semester I have a full schedule, two online classes, mentorship, and work. I have now been able to find time to go to my school’s library to get the online class and other homework done. I enjoy going to the library because it is a quite controlled environment that I am able to focus on and continue to do the necessary things. I need to work on being more disciplined when I get home because I often find myself ignoring the work that is left over from the day.
